Dear Parent / Carer,
‘Kick the Plastic’ Non-uniform Day – Friday 19th July 2019
At Priestnall we take very seriously our responsibility to ‘Educate for Life’ and develop our students’ understanding and awareness of issues that reach beyond the classroom and into the wider world. We have taken several steps this year to reduce the amount of waste we produce from single-use plastic, in an attempt to minimise our organisation’s environmental impact and also to help our young people to reflect upon this crucial global issue. The actions we have taken include: –
- Selling our own Priestnall re-usable water bottles (available for £3.20 via the shop on Wisepay);
- Introducing additional plastic recycling bins;
- Conducting a student-led project to measure and display the typical waste produced in one week;
- Assemblies and LC time activities on this specific topic
In partnership with the Four Heatons’ Traders Association we wish to install additional water dispensers around our school site in order to further encourage students to bring re-useable water bottles to school and refill them during the school day. To support the costs of these dispensers we are planning a full non-uniform day on Friday 19th July 2019 to raise funds that will go directly to this cause.
All students are permitted to wear their own clothes on that day. Students are asked to pay £1.00 each in return for wearing their own clothes, and all money raised will go towards the installation of additional water dispensers within school. The items of clothing should not include any rude or offensive slogans.
I would like to emphasise that the change to uniform standards on Friday 19th July applies to clothing only, and that piercings, jewellery, make-up and hair colouring and other banned items will not be permitted. In addition, hats and scarves should not be worn in school.
If you would like to make an additional donation that would contribute directly to purchasing and installing the water dispensers, you can do this by logging into your Wisepay account and clicking on the ‘Donate to School’ button in the general payments section. All additional donations would be gratefully received.
If you have any queries regarding this, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Mr J Cregg
