The Governing Board has the following core strategic functions:
Establishing the strategic vision; by:
- Setting the vision, values and objectives for the school
- Agreeing the school improvement strategy with priorities and targets
- Meeting statutory duties
- Ensuring accountability, by:
- Appointing the headteacher
- Monitoring progress towards targets
- Performance managing the headteacher
- Engaging with stakeholders
- Contributing to school self evaluation
Ensuring financial probity, by
- Setting the budget
- Monitoring spending against the budget
- Ensuring value for money is obtained
- Ensuring risks to the organisation are managed.
The Governing Board at Priestnall meets 3 times a year. It is supported by 3 sub-committees:
Curriculum and Standards Committee, Resources Committee and Pay Review Committee.
The Membership of the Governing Board is:
The Headteacher
9 co-opted governors (appointed by the Board)
3 parent governors (elected by parents)
1 staff governor (elected by staff)
1 local authority governor (nominated by the local authority)
The 2 deputy heads are associate governors and the school business manager attends meetings by invitation.
